Angelo Henry started his amateur MMA career with the Undisputed/Gladiators theam under head coach Eugene "The Wolf" Jackson. A game opponent known for his striking, athleticism, and raw strength, Henry burst onto the amateur scene going undefeated in his first three fights.
Intent on paving his own way in life, Henry eventually left hte camp seeking to "find [his] independence and to see what other gyms had to offer." Unfortunately, teh gamble did not pay off and Henry's previously unscathed record was marred by a string of consecutive losses.
"Everyone I went up against was a good fighter, but at teh end of the day, I didn't lose those fights to my opponents, I beat myself. My biggest mistake was leaving the Undisputed/Gladiators team. It's true that you are your own worse enemy!"
After a sobering loss at WAR II in April of 2011, Henry took something between a break from competition, and a spiritual hiatus to regroup and formulate a strategy yo get back on the winning path.
"I just needed to get back to the asics; back to a winning team. Two things happened at my last fight: 1)I got my ass kicked by a wrestler and 2) I watched my original team dominate the entire event, with a knockout by Jon Chaplin, a 30-second armbar submission by Casey Jackson, and a title win by Nikko Jackson."
Angelo is currently back with the Undisputed/Gladiators team and looking forward to his next fight. |
